A long term consequence of inequality

In a documentary about Thailand
A Thai volonteer could not understand
How it could be that the Thai people
Accepted such violence in the political system
She said that the big clash had not yet come

A professor in political science
In well combed short hair and a Thai suit
Said that the service culture and smiles
Did not allow people to vent
So when they eventually do
They do it violently

They also said that prostitution
Was nothing new, or western
But a long term consequence of inequality
Of rural families expecting to be supported
By their young daughters

The reporter said that it is sometimes difficult to tell
Who is using who
But behind the land of a thousand smiles
Yellow and red
Seem bound to clash again
